Our US future under a Romney energy plan

Romney's energy plan calls for more drilling, less investment in Renewables

24.08.2012: In his newly released energy policy white paper, US presidential candidate Mitt Romney lays out how he would make North America energy independent by 2020. Romney’s plan relies almost entirely on dramatically increasing oil and gas production in the US, Canada and Mexico, but it also calls for reducing regulatory and permitting barriers that slow down the development of all types of energy projects. One way Romney would speed up energy development would be to give states control over development on federal lands within their borders. The white paper generally mentions solar and other Renewables only to say that alternative energy technologies should not be singled out for preferential treatment and that the government should not provide loans or subsidies to companies developing unproven technologies. Romney argues that the federal government does have a role to play in facilitating innovation in the energy industry, but he believes this has more to do with eliminating barriers than actively providing support. Romney unveiled his energy plan yesterday during a campaign stop in New Mexico. … Source: Romney for President; Summary: PHOTON
