The Bahamas considers support programs for renewable energy

18.08.2012: According to local news source Tribune 242, the Bahamas’ Ministry of Environment is considering proposals for renewable energy power plants to be built across the island nation. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Minister of Environment Kenred Dorsett said his ministry is considering several proposals from local and foreign companies interested in developing solar, biomass, wind and ocean thermal power plants in the Bahamas, a country which relies heavily on imported fossil fuels. The ministry is also considering a number of measures and incentives that would encourage the development of renewable energy. This includes the introduction of a renewable energy act, the details of which have not been released, and the creation of both an electricity regulator and a sustainable energy unit within the Ministry of Environment.
