09.08.2012: Over the next 30 years, the US Army Corps of Engineers intends to purchase $7 billion worth of electricity generated by renewable energy systems located at or near US military installations. To that effect, the US Army has issued a request for proposal (RFP) to procure $7 billion worth of long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) with independent power producers. The US Army specifies that the solar, wind, geothermal and biomass facilities producing the electricity must be financed, developed, owned and operated by the private sector. PPAs will be awarded over the next decade and will last up to 30 years. The RFP is part of the US Department of Defense’s (DOD) plan to strengthen energy security and reduce energy costs for the US Army, Navy and Air Force. The DOD aims to get 25% of its energy from renewable energy sources by 2025. … Source: US Army Corps of Engineers Energy Initiatives Task Force; Summary: PHOTON http://armyeitf.com http://armyeitf.com/index.php/opportunities/procurementactions |
