Brazilan state of Rio Grande do Sul introduces sales tax exemption for DGPV projects
17.02.2016: The government of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is located in southernmost part of Brazil, has confirmed it will exempt owners of distributed generation PV projects developed under the federal net-metering scheme from paying the ICMS, the Brazilian state sales tax. Local energy secretary Lucas Redecker had announced the plan to introduce this tax break for PV distributed generation in December 2015. The tax exemption will be granted to PV projects with a power of up to 100 kW. In May 2015, Brazil’s National Finance Policy Council (CONFAZ) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MME) asked the country's regional governments to apply this tax break at state-level. The states of Acre, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Pernambuco, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Maranhao and Tocantin have already applied the ICMS exemption for distributed generation PV projects. © PHOTON
