Alberta launches $3.6 million solar rebate program
Canadian solar association CanSIA believes that a new renewable energy framework supporting solar could lead to the installation of 1 GW of PV capacity in Alberta by 2022.
8.02.2016: The government of the Canadian province of Alberta has launched a solar rebate program for residential and commercial PV installations. Local news agency CBC reports that the program has a budget of 5 million CAD ($3.6 million). Under the scheme, PV system owners will receive a rebateof 75 CAD per W to a maximum of 300,000 CAD per project. The program was especially designed for farmers and municipalities. The government of Alberta is also planning to introduce a net-metering scheme for residential and commercial PV systems. The province’s legislative assembly has recently passed a motion to change the regulation for the installation of PV system for self-consumption that would enable homeowners to sell the excess electricity back to the power grid. In 2014, the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) called on the government of Alberta to introduce a renewable energy framework that would ensure the province covered at least 1.5% of its electricity demand with solar by 2022. © PHOTON
