Argentinean government plans giant solar project
8.02.2016: The President of Argentina Mauricio Macri announced it is planning a giant solar project in the province of Jujuy, in the north of the country. Macri said that the project could reach a capacity of 3 GW and that it would receive an unspecified support from the government. The project, named Plan Belgrano, will be located in Purmamarca and will provide with power Argentina’s northern provinces. Macro has not disclosed more details about the project. The government of the Argentinean province of Jujuy approved a new law (Ley 5.904) for the promotion of solar energy in late January. The new policy aims at developing both off-grid and grid-connected PV systems across the region. The local Department of Energy said that it will cooperate with local mining state-owned company Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado (Jemse) to increase the use of solar energy to power industrial activities in the province. © PHOTON
