Brazil's energy regulator homologates PV projects selected in November's reserve energy auction
18.02.2016: Brazil’s energy regulator ANEEL has homologated 52 of the 53 wind and PV power projects selected in the reserve energy auction, which was held on Nov. 13, 2015. The auction was designated to the contracting of electricity coming from new wind and solar power plants. The Brazilian Energy Agency (EPE), part of Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, allocated 1,115.9 MW of PV capacity and 548.2 MW of wind power in the auction. The auction ended with an average price of 297.95 BRL ($74.6) per MWh for solar projects. This was down 21% from the starting maximum price for the auction, which was 381.0 BRL ($95.7) per MWh. The average price for wind projects was 203.46 BRL per MWh, down 4.5% from the initial price of 213.00 BRL per MWh. The 33 PV projects will be installed in the states of Bahia (24), Ceará (4), Maranhão (1), Minas Gerais (9), Paraíba (1), Pernambuco (4), Rio Grande do Norte (6), Tocantins (3) and São Paulo (1). Projects selected in the auction will begin delivering power in November 2018 and sell their electricity output to the Brazilian grid under a 20-year PPA. © PHOTON
