North America becomes Canadian Solar's largest market after sales in Europe plunge

10.05.2012: Chinese-Canadian module manufacturer Canadian Solar Inc. said its revenue declined by over 31% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012, falling from $474.1 million last year to $325.8 million this year. The company also posted a net loss of $21.3 million, compared to a net income of $5.9 million in the first quarter of 2011. Solar module shipments were down for the quarter at 343 MW – compared to 436 MW last year – but the company said it expects shipments to grow next quarter to between 430 and 450 MW. In fiscal year 2011, 65% of Canadian Solar’s revenue came from Europe and only 17.6% came from North America. In the first quarter of 2012, however, sales to North America represented 45.1% of net revenue and sales to European markets represented 42.6%. … Source: Canadian Solar Inc.; Summary: PHOTON
