06.03.2012: Local newspaper Daily Yomiuri Online reports that the city of Iwanuma, in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture, plans to build a 15 MW photovoltaic power plant on agricultural land contaminated during last year’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami. The city has not yet selected a contractor to build the power plant, but it expects construction to begin in July and to be completed sometime next year. Construction costs are expected to top ¥5 billion ($61 million), and electricity generated by the power plant will be sold to electric utility Tohoku Electric Power Co.
