US solar industry split between manufacturers and developers/installers on Chinese anti-dumping case

North America

On the eve of countervailing duty ruling, CASE calls on CASM members to disclose subsidies

19.03.2012: Just as the US Department of Commerce (DOC) is set to announce a preliminary ruling of the countervailing duty investigation into Chinese solar cell imports, the Coalition for Affordable Solar Energy (CASE) has called on all seven members of the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing (CASM) to disclose a complete list of state, federal and foreign subsidies they have received over the past decade. Jigar Shah, president of CASE, said “Unfortunately, the US Department of Commerce does not consider the hypocrisy of the petitioner or make a comparative evaluation. However, given the damaging nature of CASM’s crusade, the public deserves to know the truth about SolarWorld and the millions of dollars it has received in supply-side government subsidies.” Late last year, the DOC launched an antidumping and countervailing duty investigation into Chinese solar cell imports in response to a petition filed by CASM. CASE has repeatedly called on CASM and its founding members to drop the trade case, arguing that tariffs on Chinese imports would hurt the US solar industry and would cost US jobs. The preliminary ruling of the countervailing duty investigation will be announced today, while the preliminary ruling of the associated antidumping investigation is scheduled for May 16, 2012. … Source: Coalition for Affordable Solar Energy; Summary: PHOTON
