09.04.2012: The Maryland Legislature has passed a new law (SB 791 / HB 1187) that aims to speed up deployment of photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal systems in Maryland by modifying the state’s Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS). The legislation, approved by the Senate on March 29 and by the House on April 4, requires the state to produce a larger percentage of its energy from solar in coming years. According to the amended RPS, in 2015, the state must get 13% of its electricity from renewables. A minimum of 0.5% of that must come from solar, up from 0.4%.
