Brazil considers enabling legislation

The Brazilian Parliament is currently discussing several bills aimed at introducing fiscal breaks for solar energy. The bill PLS 8322/14, which intends to exempt the imports of PV components from have from having to pay the IPI (Imposto sobre a Importação) import tax, the bill PLS 317 / 2013, which was approved by the Senate’s Committee on Economic Affairs in November 2014, and would also exempt individuals and companies that install solar thermal or PV systems from having to pay the IPI on solar components acquired for their projects. Moreover, the Parliament is examining the bill 5539 / 2013, which submitted by the deputy and former governor of the state of Mato Grosso, Júlio Campos, and would exempt PV and wind project developers from paying the federal VAT (IPI) and the import tax (II) on components used for their generation projects. © PHOTON
