Panama's first solar energy auction will be held on Nov. 25, 2014.
| 25.11.2014: Panama’s public services regulator Autoridad de los Servicios Públicos de la República de Panamá (ASEP) has granted provisional approval for six PV projects with a combined capacity of 185.9 MW in the last month. The projects consist of the 77 MW Scott Solar project, proposed by local developer Compañia Solar de Panamá for the municipality of El Coco, in the province of Coclé; a 20 MW PV project that local company Progreso Solar MW SA aims to build in the municipality of Barú, in the province of Chiriquí; the 45 MW Campo Solar Tocumen project, submitted by local developer Panama Solar Energy providers Inc., which would be located in the municipality of Tocumen, in the province of Tocumen; another 9.96 MW PV project, named Panameña de Energía Solar IV, which would be developed by Panameña de Energía Solar in Natá, Chiriqui province; the 16 MW Pocrí solar project, which would be developed by Panamá Solar 2 SA in the municipality of Aguadulce in Coclé province; and the 18 MW El Roble project planned by Panamá Solar 2 SA, also in Aguadulce. Panama’s grid operator Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica SA (ETESA) announced that the country’s first solar energy auction will be held on Nov. 25, 2014, a month later than originally scheduled. ETESA did not say why the auction was pushed back from Oct. 16. PV projects selected through the auction will have to start delivering electricity to the grid by Jan. 1, 2017.
