13.08.2013: The world's top 20 PV manufacturers shipped more than 5.8 GW of modules in the second quarter of 2013, up 21% year on year from 4.8 GW in the second quarter of 2012, reports NPD Solarbuzz. The top 20 solar manufacturers accounted for 68% of all module shipments in the second quarter: »The leading solar PV suppliers are now starting to pull away from the pack, which provides strong evidence that the anticipated industry consolidation is finally in progress,« said Ray Lian, senior analyst at NPD Solarbuzz. According to preliminary findings in the new NPD Solarbuzz Module Tracker Quarterly report, top Chinese manufacturers Yingli Green Energy, Trina Solar, Jinko Solar, ReneSola and Hanwha SolarOne broke their quarterly module shipment records in the second quarter of 2013. Yingli even broke the all-time quarterly shipment record, shipping 0.8 GW of modules. NPD reports that despite their success, however, China's top module suppliers are having some difficulty cracking the Japanese market, currently the highest growth PV end-market. Canadian Solar and JA Solar have become the leading overseas module suppliers in Japan; however, over the past four quarters, domestic suppliers have accounted for 54% of modules shipped by the 20 leading module suppliers in Japan. ©
