China's installed, mass manufacturing and supply chain capacity

China's cumulative installed PV capacity tops 28.0 GW

17.02.2015: Mainland China added 10.6 GW of new solar generation capacity in 2014, according to China’s National Energy Administration (NEA). This is down from 12.9 GW in 2013 and lower than China’s 2014 target of 14 GW. The 10.6 GW installed in China represents about a quarter of all solar capacity added worldwide in 2014. China’s cumulative installed solar capacity now tops 28 GW. The country’s utility-scale solar generation capacity stands at 23.38 GW, while the country’s distributed generation PV systems have a total installed capacity of 4.67 GW. According to South China Morning Post, analysts expect China to add significantly more solar generation capacity this year, due in part to the completion of unfinished projects left over from last year and supportive state policies. Still, many analysts forecast China will fall short of its goal of installing 15 GW of new solar generation capacity this year. The NEA also reported that Chinese polysilicon production increased by nearly 50% in 2014 to 13 million tons, while PV module production rose 17% to more than 33 GW. Approximately 68% of modules produced in China were exported last year. © PHOTON
