Canadian Solar Subsidiary Sky Solar commits to Uruguay Project

Tecnova Renovables breaks ground on 1.7 MW PV project in Uruguay

09.12.2013: Uruguay-based renewable energy developer Tecnova Renovables has started construction of a 1.75 MW PV plant in the Paysandu Department in western Uruguay, according to local state-owned utility UTE. The project, which will come online by March 2014, was awarded a 30-year power purchase agreement with UTE through a recently held 200 MW request for proposals (RfP). The first five projects selected under the RfP secured contract rates of $86.6 to $91.5 per MWh, according to UTE. All five projects are located in western Uruguay, in the department of Salto, Paysandu and Rio Negro. Tecnova Renovables is also planning an 8 MW PV power plant in the same region in cooperation with Radition SA, a common subsidiary of Chinese renewable energy company Sky Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. Radition has recently signed an agreement with local authorities to lease a 42-acre site for the project in an industrial area near the city of Paysandu. The company intends to invest $20 million in the project. Like all projects selected under the 200 MW RfP, Radition’s Paysandu project must be completed by the second quarter of 2015. © PHOTON
