Subject: the Paris Accord
Monty ,
Today the White House announced the United States will withdraw from the Paris Accord, a global agreement between more than 190 countries meant to protect our climate. This reckless decision has devastating repercussions not only for the United States, but for our planet.
We in New York remain committed to meeting the standards set forth in the Paris Accord regardless of Washington's actions. That's why today, along with California Governor Edmund G. Brown and Washington Governor Jay R. Inslee, I am forming the United States Climate Alliance, a coalition that will convene U.S. states committed to taking aggressive action on climate change.
Climate change is real and won't be wished away by denial. So if Washington won't act, New Yorkers must. Add your name now if you're ready to fight and protect our climate >>
Together, New York, California, and Washington represent approximately 68 million people – nearly one-in-five Americans.
With input from all participants, the U.S. Climate Alliance will act as a forum to sustain and strengthen existing climate programs, promote the sharing of information and best practices, and implement new programs to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors of the economy.
The Administration's reckless decision to leave the Paris Accord will not change New York's strong commitment to achieving our climate goals.
If Washington will not act on climate then the states must. Can I count on you to pledge support for the U.S. Climate Alliance and the fight to protect our climate? Sign the petition now.
I refuse to abandon New York's climate goals in the face of Washington's irresponsible actions, and I'm proud to have your support on this crucial issue.
Ever Upward,
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
