20.01.2015: PV module prices fell 75% between 2009 and 2014, according to the report »Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2014,« published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The sharp drop in module prices was the main factor driving the overall drop in the cost of renewable energy technologies over the last 5 years. The cost of a residential PV system has fallen by 70% since 2008, while the cost for electricity from large-scale PV plants has declined by 50% since 2010. Furthermore, solar markets like China, South America and North America are now seeing PV projects selling their output for as little $0.08 per kWh without incentives, a price »within the range of fossil fuel-fired electricity.« IRENA notes that for large-scale PV plants especially, prices could fall further as financing costs drop. © PHOTON http://www.irena.org http://www.irena.org/News/Description.aspx?NType=A&mnu=cat&PriMenuID=1 6&CatID=84&News_ID=386 |
