Inverter prices down nearly 20% year on year

Inverter shipments to rise sharply in fourth quarter, but falling prices will limit revenue

12.10.2012: Global photovoltaic (PV) inverter shipments are forecast to reach a record of 8.6 GW in the fourth quarter of 2012 following a weak third quarter. According to IMS Research, the 18% year-on-year rise in global inverter shipments in the fourth quarter will largely be driven by Asian countries such as China, India and Japan, which will account for nearly 50% of the total market for the quarter. Revenue, meanwhile, will be much more modest due to increasing price pressure for PV inverters. IMS estimates that in the first half of 2012, over 16 GW of inverters were shipped globally. However, the average price of PV inverters in the second quarter was down nearly 20% year on year. Source: IMS Research
