BayWa achieved €100 million financial close of Spanish 174 MW solar park
© BayWa r.e. Renewable Energy GmbH 02.08.2018: German renewable energy project developer and service provider BayWa r.e. Renewable Energy GmbH and Nord/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank have achieved financial close of a €100 million ($117 million) construction bridge financing for »Don Rodrigo« photovoltaic solar park, located in the municipalities of Utrera and Alcala de Guadaira, near Seville, Spain. The facility with an installed capacity of 174 MW will use Astronergy and GCL solar panels and Huawei inverters. After completion, the project will generate around 300 GWh of solar power per year. The project is one of the first solar projects of this size in Europe to be realized without any subsidies. As reported, BayWa and Norwegian energy group Statkraft signed a 15-year PPA.

Ireland to support small rooftop PV up to 4 kW
© PHOTON Pictures - Udo Geisler 02.08.2018: The Irish government launched a new scheme to support domestic customers who install PV panels on their homes, offering €700 ($817) per kW installed up to 2 kW. Systems up to 4 kW must include a battery storage system for a fixed grant of €1,000 ($1167). According to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten, »a typical 3 bed semi-detached house would spend about €1,800 on a solar panel system and would save approximately €220 per year on their electricity bills.« The pilot scheme will be subject to a 6 month review at which time the costs of installation will be assessed and further opportunities to broaden this scheme to other groups and other technologies will be explored, says Naughten. The scheme will be funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment and administered by Ireland's national Sustainable Energy Authority (SEAI).
Homeowners with properties built and occupied before 2011 are eligible to apply for the grants via SEAI and, once approved, have six months to get the works completed. Only an installer who is on SEAI's Renewable Installers Register for Solar PV can certify the installation. Solar PV pilot incentives are not retroactive. If equipment was purchased or installed prior to July 31, 2018, it is not eligible for support. Applications for payment can only be made after October 2018. The pilot scheme will run until the end of 2020.

Installation cost of small rooftop PV in India is about $879 per kW
© Asian Development Bank - ADB 02.08.2018: For installation of rooftop solar PV projects in India, the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has worked out benchmark cost of INR 60,000 ($879) per kilowatt for PV systems with an installed capacity up to 10 kilowatt, INR 55,000 ($805) per kilowatt for systems of 10 to 100 kilowatt, and around INR 53,000 ($776) for solar systems with an installed capacity of 100 to 500 kilowatt. The cost of generating solar power depends upon intensity of radiation, size of the solar plant, cost of financing and more, says Shri R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) Power and New & Renewable Energy in reply to a question in Lok Sabha (»House of the People«, the lower chamber of India's parliament).

EDF Renewables and PGGM sign agreements on 332 MW wind and solar projects in the US
02.08.2018: EDF Renewables North America signed two purchase and sale agreements by which PGGM Infrastructure Fund will acquire a 50 percent ownership interest in the 200 MW »Glacier's Edge Wind« project, located in Cherokee County, Iowa, and the 132 MW »Valentine Solar« plant, located in Kern County, California.
This transaction follows on an earlier agreement between the two companies concerning three projects for 588 MW. Total capacity of the portfolio (five projects in total) is 920 MW. EDF Renewables will remain a 50 percent co-owner and provide management as well as operations and maintenance services.
PGGM is a cooperative Dutch pension fund service provider. According to the company, the agreement with EDF Renewables is part of PGGM's fast-growing portfolio of investments in climate solutions for PFZW, the pension fund for Dutch healthcare workers. At this stage PGGM has realized €7 billion ($8.2 billion) of these investments both in private and public markets.
