Subject: Politics Alert: White House readies plan to extend about $12 billion in emergency aid to farmers caught in Trump's escalating trade war

An announcement could come as soon as Tuesday, according to two people briefed on the matter. This is the latest sign that growing tensions between the United States and other countries will not end soon. Farm groups have complained that Trump's tariffs on foreign imports have led other countries to retaliate with tariffs on U.S. products, jeopardizing farmers' overseas sales of soybeans and other crops. Under the White House plan, the money will be disbursed in at least three ways, coming through direct assistance, a food purchase and distribution program, and a trade promotion program.
