Brazil's second Reserve Energy auction accepts preliminary PV project applications totaling 20.9 GW

24.07.2015: Brazil’s Energy Agency EPE, part of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), has accepted 649 preliminary applications for PV projects with a combined capacity of 20,953 MW for Brazil’s Reserve Energy auction that will be held on Nov., 13, 2015. Projects selected in the auction, which must begin delivering power in January 2018, will sell their electricity output to the Brazilian grid under a 20-year PPA. The auction, which will select exclusively solar and wind power projects, has also accepted 730 preliminary applications for wind projects totaling 17.9 GW. Only a small portion of these projects, however, will ultimately be selected through the upcoming auction. In the Reserve Energy auction that was held in 2014, EPE selected 31 PV projects with a combined capacity of 889.7 MW and 31 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 769.1 MW. EPE had accepted 400 preliminary applications for PV power projects totaling 10.7 GW and 626 preliminary applications for wind power projects representing 15.3 GW for this auction In 2015, EPE will also hold a first Reserve Energy auction exclusively for solar projects on Aug. 28, 2015.
