Chile heating up (no pepper pun)

04.02.2015: CorpBanca, Chile’s third largest commercial bank and a unit of Itaú Unibanco, the second largest bank in Latin America, will provide Dutch investment firm Rijn Capital with $104 million in construction financing for the 54 MW San Pedro III solar project Rijn Capital is developing in northern Chile. According to local financial newspaper El Diario Financiero, Rijn Capital's Chilean PV project pipeline now stands at 500 MW. In September, Rijn Capital submitted to Chilean environmental authorities a proposal to build the San Pedro V solar project, which would have a capacity of 38.5 MW and would require an investment of $85 million. Construction of the project, located in the municipality of Calama, in the Antofagasta region, is scheduled to start in January 2015, pending approval. Rijn Capital has submitted proposals for a number of PV projects planned for northern Chile over the last few years. Proposed projects include the $280 million, 63.1 MW Lagunas solar park planned for the Tarapaca region and three 36 MW PV plants planned for the Atacama region. The El Salado I, El Salado II and Carrera II projects have a required investment of $96.3 million, $106.5 million and $108.7 million, respectively. Construction on the Lagunas plant is due to begin in March 2015, pending approval, while construction on the other three projects was scheduled to commence in December 2014. © PHOTON
