Cuba to build its first megawatt-scale plant this year

11.06.2012: Cuba plans to start to building megawatt-scale parks. The first such installation is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to local news website Cubadebate.cu. Solar parks totaling 10 MW are expected in 2013. Moreover, the country wants to increase the share of renewables in the electricity mix over the next 8 years from 3.8 percent to 16.5 percent. Currently there are a large number of off-grid solar installations in Cuba and several small-scale on-grid systems.
