E-CL to build 2 MW for mining firm Quiborax in northern Chile

21.05.2012: Chilean mining firm Quiborax SA and electric company E-CL SA, a company controlled by French energy group GDF Suez, have reached an agreement to build a 2 MW solar park in the northern Chilean region of Arica and Parinacota. The grid-connected solar park will offset about 30 percent of the electricity used by Quiborax’s El Águila chemical plant, located near Arica. E-CL will construct, own and operate the solar park, which is due to be completed in the first half of 2013. This is one of the first agreements between power generators and mining companies for a solar installation in Chile.
