We're losing money on every panel, but making it up in volume

Suntech posts net loss of over $1 billion

08.03.2012: Chinese solar manufacturer Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. posted a net loss of over $1 billion in 2011, compared to net income of $237 million in 2010. In the fourth quarter alone, the company recorded a net loss of $137 million. Meanwhile, module shipments grew 33.3 percent year-over-year, reaching 2,096 MW in 2011. However, lower average module prices resulted in a decline in gross margin, which shrunk from 18.7 percent in 2010 to 12.3 percent in 2011. Net revenues increased from $2.9 billion in 2010 to $3.1 billion in 2011. In fiscal year 2012, Suntech expects to ship between 2.1 and 2.5 GW of modules.
