DOE study says solar could cover 14% of US energy demand by 2030

29.02.2012: The US Department of Energy (DOE) has published the SunShot Vision Study, an in-depth assessment of the potential for solar power to meet a significant share of electricity demand in the US over the next 20 to 40 years. Based on the assumption that the price of solar technologies will decline by 75 percent between 2010 and 2020, the SunShot study estimates that photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) installations could jointly cover about 14 percent of US electricity demand by 2030 and 27 percent by 2050. The scenario forecast by the study could result in up to 290,000 new solar jobs by 2030 and up to 390,000 new solar jobs by 2050. The study relies on models produced by the DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). … Source: US Department of Energy; Summary: PHOTON
